Platform teams govern infrastructure that spans public cloud, on-premises data centers, bare metal, Kubernetes and GPU clusters. Each layer arrives with its own tools, and no shared definition exists for what the layer governing all of it must include.
This table is that shared definition: the capabilities a modern Infrastructure Control Plane consists of, across the full Day 0 to Day 2 lifecycle.
104Capabilities
8Domains
4Product pillars
What it shows
- The full scope, not one slice. Provisioning sits in one domain with 18 of the 104 elements. The other 86 cover what it takes to deliver, govern, pay for, connect and operate that infrastructure.
- Outcomes cut across domains. Operate draws 46 elements from 7 of the 8 domains. Delivering any outcome takes capabilities from several categories working together.
- Shared foundations come first. 19 elements serve more than one pillar, so several outcomes depend on them.
- Connectivity is a requirement. Integrations & API is the largest domain, with 21 elements.
- Governed AI belongs inside the platform. AI & Agentic holds 20 elements and depends on the same governance and connectivity as everything else.
Every element is one capability. Each tile carries five pieces of information.
- Number, top left: its position, 1 to 104
- Symbol: a short code for quick reference
- Name: the capability
- Tile color: the domain it belongs to
- Dots, bottom right: the product pillars it serves
Domains: what kind of capability
The eight colors are the eight domains, described in the Domain Key above the table. Every element belongs to exactly one domain.
Pillars: what outcome it serves
Curate, discover & inventory
Self-Service, deploy on demand
Operate, manage & optimize
Agentic AI, governed AI operations
Every control narrows the table in place: matching elements stay bright and the rest fade back, so the full shape stays visible for context.
- Domain filters
- The "By domain" buttons, or the colored squares in the Domain Key, show one domain. "All" resets.
- Pillar filters
- The "By pillar" buttons highlight every element that serves that outcome, across all domains. Click again to clear.
- Search
- Matches capability names, descriptions and domains as you type.
- Element detail
- Click any tile to read what it delivers and why it matters. Prev, next and the arrow keys step through the elements in view.
- View menu
- In the bar below, switches between the whole table, any domain and any pillar.
- Fit to screen
- On smaller screens, scales the table to the window so it is visible at once.
Where to start
Begin with the whole table to see the scope, filter by a pillar to see everything one outcome requires end to end, or by a domain to see the depth of one category.
- Choose a view in the View menu, or use the filter buttons. What is on screen is what gets downloaded.
- Choose a format in "Download as."
- Click Download. The file is prepared in your browser and saves in a few seconds.
